Safety Tips for Walking Home at Night

Woman walking alone at night

At one point in our lives we may be faced with walking home at night alone. The thought of what could happen always crosses our minds. Walking alone at night makes you vulnerable to others who may not have the best intentions in mind. We at AMP Security want to make sure you and your loved ones are protected at all times so we have provided you with some safety precautions you should be taking when you are walking home at night on your own.

Keep your Phone Charged

Before heading out make sure your phone is fully charged. It is wise to keep a spare charger on you at all times so you can plug in and charge your phone for the walk home. Having a phone can be a life saver in a dire situation. Make sure you have enough minutes to be able to call for help if needed. If possible, keep a 2nd phone with you as well. Stow away your extra phone in your bag or back pocket just in case you lose your primary phone.

Save Emergency Numbers

Most phones allow you to list favorites that create ease and one touch dialing of those saved numbers. Save emergency numbers on your favorites list to have ease of access in emergency situations. You can put numbers such as 911 or even a close friend or family member than can be readily available to assist you no matter what the circumstance.

Know your Route

When walking alone at night you will want to get to your destination as soon as possible. It is important to know your route and get there without getting lost or sidetracked along the way.  Use the GPS on your phone if you are in a new area and don’t know your way around town. Don’t take short cuts and try to stay on well-lit streets.

Stay Alert

Try and be aware of everything that is going on around you at all times. Watch those who are walking towards you and make sure you look around you every so often. Don’t do anything that can distract you from your route and what is going on around you. If you feel like you are being stalked call a friend and give them minute by minute updates. Make sure you give a very accurate description of your stalker so they can be identified if needed.
